Bridget completed a B.S. degree in Psychology at Fordham University, and later earned her M.S. and Ph.D. at Florida International University. Prior to FIU, Bridget was a research assistant for Joshua L. Brown, Ph.D. at Fordham University and a behavioral counselor at New York University’s Summer Program for Kids (SPK) for children with disruptive behavior disorders. She also worked as the program coordinator for New York-Presbyterian Hospital’s Youth Anxiety Center (YAC) at the Columbia University Clinic for Anxiety and Related Disorders (CUCARD) under the mentorship of Anne Marie Albano, Ph.D.
Bridget’s research interests broadly center around the delivery of evidence-based interventions for young children with externalizing and internalizing behavior problems, especially in the context of school and the kindergarten transition. More specifically, Bridget is interested in (1) training teachers in order to increase their knowledge and use of evidence-based behavioral management practices in the classroom, (2) the dissemination of evidence-based behavioral management strategies in early education classrooms, (3) preparing children at-risk for behavioral problems, and their families, for the transition to kindergarten, especially in under resourced community settings, and (4) understanding parent behaviors as they relate to the trajectory of child anxiety problems.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility
2015-2021 Regular supervision and mentorship support for undergraduate students at a leading Hispanic-Serving Institution (HIS) where 80% of students identify as being from minoritized backgrounds and 25% of students are considered first generation.
2019 Co-mentored a McNair Scholar in research project: Do relationships matter? Understanding the impact of student-teacher relationships on academic performance for children with externalizing behavior problems.
2020-2021 Participated in a Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion monthly seminar at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
2022- Mentorship for CHOP Research Internship for Scholars and Emerging Scientists (RISES) student. CHOP RISES is a summer internship intended to build science confidence in high school students who are traditionally under-represented in research and science.
2022- With community-partnered support and input, co-developed and provide ongoing implementation support of a qualitative interview to understand the cultural humility of integrated primary care behavioral health clinicians.
2015- Initiate scholarship, clinical research activities, and teaching related to the development, implementation, and sustainment of feasible, equitable, community-partnered, and culturally responsive mental health interventions for children and families from minoritized backgrounds who are experiencing poverty.
